let me give a background here first. I have a 56 f100 with a 272 with a 3 speed manual tranny. My speedo cable is connected to the dash cluster and I am having trouble with the end that goes into the tranny. The end that goes into the tranny has metal tip that inserts into the tranny with a rubber grommet that seats on the end that inserts into the tranny. I have been trying for hours to get it into the tranny but it wont make it past the rubber grommet. It is the same exact speedo cable as the one that i removed. The problem is the rubber grommet being new and too tough to insert. Can anyone give me some tips to get it in there or soften the grommet. I cant remove the grommet cuz the the tranny will prob leak fluid. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the O ring on the plug is the wrong one. They usually go in without much problem. Are you using a lubricant on the O ring? Grease or oil will work. Sometimes putting the clip in place and snugging the bolt and then tapping on the plug lightly will get the job done.
