Welcome Gary! I hope you come to love the Y. BigGrin Nice paint. The trans that will fit that bell is the old 4 speed with granny first, not a bad trans but you might be a little happier with a three or four speed car trans. That would require a different bell. On a happy note, at least you can get a truck tranny for cheap, possibly free. Wink

Thanks I'm a Ford guy at heart and this is the only engine I haven't built yet.... currently have a 302, 289, 460, and 239 (flatty)

This one is going in my coupe..... Where is a good place to buy parts and gaskets for these beauts?

Also, what trans would you say is the easiest to mate up and is street driveable, I don't want the honks to speed up

Gary looks in the links section of this site, several parts sources plus your local parts store can get alot of parts. Like Tim said your bellhousing is for the truck four speed. It is heavy and most likely not what you want for a coupe. Not to worry though 3 speed bells are cheap and easy to find. A pass car bell will allow you to use a top loader or T10 four speed. Mummert can modify a bell to use a early T5 or if you want an auto, adapters are available for the C4 or a AOD. Do a topic search and you will find a ton of info on trans swaps. Just depends on what you want and how deep your pockets are. Welcome to the site and have fun with your Y block, I think you will like it.

welcome Gary, I'm just down the street from you so let me know if you need any help. Have local sources for stuff too if you are interested.

Gary: Recently our moderator Ted, did a series of tests on exhaust manifolds and headers. In short those pre 56 (in cars anyway) front crossover manifolds are bad news for any performance. They finished dead last You might want to invest in later exhaust manifolds with rear dumps..
