Hi everyone,

Well I came across a rebuilt 312 I am putting in my 56 bird. It was just rebuilt along with a auto 3 speed and what I was looking for. Question is what is a fair price to sell my current motor. It is a 312 that has a 57 distributor, manifold and carb. The engine is still in the car (87,000 miles) but she is getting tired. Am I better parting out the motor?

I am rebuilding my 3 speed manual with overdrive and with the engine I purchased came a completely rebuilt(with receipts) 3 speed auto trans.

So I have a 57 3 speed tranny to sell and my 56 motor. I appreciate all the help from this board on pricing and would like them to have another life than just pulled from my car. I am in Southern California.

Thanks, Mark

Thanks, Mark

Pricing is not my strong point so I will leave that to others. I would like to make sure that in the exchange of the two engines that you do keep ALL the Tbird specific parts, Exhaust manifolds, distributor with tach drive, oil pan front cover extension and more that slip my mind for now. You already knew that, anyway. When you do sell post the amount you got here so we can see it. Good luck. Pete

Thanks! I was very lucky that the motor I purchased has all of this and thats why I was hoping someone might want a complete motor with all of the items you mentioned before I pull everything off and sell it piece by piece.

Personally, I would think a complete running 312 (even though tired) would be worth more all together than parted out. Can't help with the pricing, that's pretty subjective.

I looked at a complete 312 (NOT) T Bird engine this past winter where the seller was asking $500.00/neg.

He allowed me to drop the oil pan where it was discovered it was really a tired old rebuilt 292.

I passed. So I would think in that range.

Glad you caught it! Lots of "mistaken' 312's out there.
