New to Y-blocks,gathering as much info as I can.Long term project Merc was slated for a nailhead, but that's all changed.Picked up some junker motors here and there, hopefully I can get one or two good ones out of the mix.Haven't taken the flathead out yet,but wondering what problems I'll run into with this swap.I know LH exhaust is one issue, what about oil pan clearance? All my cores are front sump,I'm thinking I may need a truck pan,or a T-bird? Are they the same?

Anybody got an old Hurst front mount for sale?

AOD with an adaptor looks good to me.

What else do I need to deal with?

Thanks in advance..Since I found this site from references on the HAMB,I've spent hours reading old posts..You Y-block folks are a gold mine of info....Bill

Truck and T-Bird pans are not the same.  T-Bird is a true rear sump, the truck has more of a tub shape.  The truck would require surgury to make it clear the crossmember.  Even the Bird may require surgery, and they are rare and expensive.  Not sure about a rear sump and steering linkage clearance. but the truck pan is not quite as deep as the Bird at the rear.

for front mounts some use the truck mount.it comes close to where the flathead mounts are.never saw one but i know its been done.and as john said your base will need work.im sure theres lots on here who done this.

The Mercury flat head pan is a rear sump type pan as opposed to the Ford flat head being a center type sump. So it would seem that a Y block rear sump pan should clear the steering linkage assuming that the new engine is located approximately the same location.
