Do I have some kind of a 292 mutt?

I'm getting ready to drop a 292 in my 54 Ford Customline, and I had the pan off to make a repair on the rear main seal. Are 292 rod caps normally marked ECZ? My main caps are maked EBU. I was trying to see if there was a casting number on the crank or a stamped number, but all I could see on the crank was some random numbers, and a EC stamped into the last weight towards the main bearing. I'm still pretty sure this is a 292.

Yep, crank marked EC and EBU caps are consistent with 292.  312 caps are ECZ.  You should check the block ID with John Mummert's site.

You either have a 1962 or later 292 with C2AE rods or a heavy duty 292.

Early HD 292's used 312 rods, marked ECZ on rod and rod cap.

61 and later HD 292's used C1TE rods with ECZ on rod cap.

Standard truck and car 292's after mid 62 used C2AE rods with ECZ on the rod cap.

All Y-Block rods except EBU used ECZ rod caps.

The engine came out of a 59 heavy truck, and has the EBU castings on the block. I just never could figure out why it had ECZ-C heads with an ECZ intake as well.

The last Y I picked up out of an F350 was full of surprises.  It was a 312 transplant with G heads and B 4V intake.
