I'm sure you guys get this question all the time, but I'm going to ask it anyway. How many of you have put a y block in a shoebox ford. I have 51 sedan with a locked up flathead. I just came across a y block that has 10000 miles on a rebuild and a 3 speed trans to boot for really really cheap! I'm thinking that this would make a great replacement for the old flathead, but I am scared that it will be too much of a job for me to swap this motor. I am pretty inexperienced. How hard is this one to pull off?

Actually that has been a fairly common swap. I havn't done one but I would think someone here has. I know you can use the rams horn exhaust in the shoebox application but thats about it. Hurst used to make a bolt on front mount that may be just what you need. That and a conversion to 12 volt. Check EBAY for the Hurst saddle mount they show up occasionaly. Chuck in NH

There's a guy over on the shoeboxford.com site that has a Thunder Road clone. Goes by Hexbore. He should be able to answer all your ?s.

Looks great and that under hood pictures solves the "what engine was it" question forever. Definately a Y-Block. I would have sworn, even bet, that the movie car was black. Darn. Chuck in NH

Thanks for the pictures Butch! I'm sold! I'm going to pick the motor and trans up on Wednesday. I will take some pictures when I get it so you guys can help identify it. I'm now on the look out for some motor mounts. Can you guys keep your eyes open for me?
