I am considering using the DOT5 silicone based brake fluid when I change the master cylinder and brake lines. Any bad experiences or things to avoid? Reading other forums, its like everything else, 50% say its good and 50% say its bad.

I have an expensive paint job that I would like to protect.

Thanks,

Danny

Go with the silicone (Dot 5). I have had no adverse effects from using it (over 10years)

The silicone brake fluid was all that I used on a daily driver 55 Ford back in 1991, a daily driver 56 F100, and it is still what I use today for any and all classic vehicles. Excellent characteristics. My late model cars all use DOT 3 for the obvious reasons such as resale, maintenance (man, that DOT 5 stuff is so much more expensive!)....

Go ahead and use it, but make sure you never mix the two.
