I'm putting a 3 spd toploader in my 55 with 272. As per Ted I'm using a 67 Fairlane clutch assy., does the pilot bearing that comes with that kit fit my y-block? Also how about a throwout bearing, any hot tip on that with my stock fork? Gary

if the pilot bearing is for a 67 fairlane it wouldnt fit.the throw out bearing should fit your fork.if you have a pilot bearing in your y now it will fit your top loader.you have to have a pilot bearing for a y or 223 six.

Over here it is a # 6203 brg, available at any bearing company. Smile

Most kits I have purchased lately had an assortment of bearings in them to fit most applications, bronze and rollers.

Gary  I made this same conversion and was able to buy just the clutch disc from John Mummert and still use the original pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing. I did have to turn down the bearing retainer on a lathe to fit the bell housing and have a new driveshaft made 3'' longer. Also requires a 57 and later style speedometer cable. The toploader that I used has a 3.03 first gear so I was able to install a 3.22 rear end in the car from an auto parts car. The original tranny had a 2.57 first gear. Taking off from a stop was no different but it sure lowered the cruise RPMs with the new setup. I have recently changed mine over to a T5 for even better fuel economy and am selling my toploader. Dave, do you happen to remember what you used for the tranny crossmember. I can fab one but you might have an easier setup. Gary
