Anyone know if there's enough meat at the back of on A manifold to drill and tap it for a vacuum fitting?

I doubt if the wall is any more than 1/8" thick, however if you drill and tap for a 1/8 pipe thread there should be enough thread to hold and seal the fitting.

Paul If you do it, let us know what the results are. I am also interested in doing this.





Not to rob your posting, but I would like to get info on drilling the blank spot right in front of the carb on a 56 A manifold, such as how for do you drill and is it still a good source of vacuum at that spot (since it was blanked off in 56)

Thanks John,I got brave and went ahead and drilled it.It is a little more than an eighth of on inch,but not much more.I tapped it for a 1/4 inch pipe thread and the fitting tightened up good.I think it will be OK.

Paul,as you can see it works out all right.I put the fitting a little to the left of center and in the middle vertically.Also,the boss on the manifold just in front of the carburetor would probably be OK as that's where there factory PCV is placed on the 63/64 truck engines.
