Just bought a basket case with a front cross member needing replaced. Anyone have any thoughts and/or ideas about putting the body on a newer (2003ish) Crown Vic chassis ? Will it work ?

I don't know but have often thought of such.  Seen an F1 on 1987 F250 4X4 that sure looked good.

There is a 55 Fairlane mounted on a huge 4 wheel drive chassis on Kijiji in Ontario Canada.Pretty wild.

As long as you can still get the Y block drive train in it, go for it!

Not wanting to rain on your parade but it would be much easier to replace the front crossmember. I have done two now and they are a no brained.

I don't know where the idea of new is better comes from Unsure. I mean do people believe car salesmen. Tongue

There is a lot right with the front end of a 50's Ford. My 56 has double wishbone front suspension with nice long control arms for stability. Granted things could be done with spring rates and damping but show me a car where it can't.

I bought some parts off a guy recently who had a ute like mine and had a 70 GM (HQ holden) front end in it. I know donor car  as my brother and father owned one each. They were never known for thier handling or braking. I'd be chopping up my original car so it stopped and handled worse Wink

It can be done right but there are a dam lot that aren't.

Cheers
