This popped up locally, and was too good a deal to pass. The '55 Country Sedan looks like it may have a '55 T-bird 292. Havent checked motor and head ID yet, as one hood hinge is hanging up and wont open all the way. The Y is a dual exhaust 4V, with the '55 Holley model 214, or maybe a 4000 as it was hard to see, on top. It even came with the giant original oil bath air filter, and the key was in the ignition. The glove box is weird. How does it open? No knob or pull point. Initial exam looks like a good pre restoration car. All the glass (and there is a lot of it) is good except for the windshield.

Congrats on the 55 wagon. I think the glove box has a button you bump with your hand to open it. I had a 55 mainline years ago, seems that was how it worked.

Mike, push the button to open the Glove Box, should just pop open. It may be locked, should take the same key as the door/lift gate (that is if you got the key?)
Love long roofs, especially '55. Is yours a six or nine passenger? All wagons (to my knowledge) had duel exhaust.

I have the key for ignition. It turns the glove box lock tumbler. Lock tumbler is not fixed, easy pull out push in the whole assembly. No button. Will investigate. The key seems to fit the tailgate lock, but havent been able to get the lock to move, or tail gate to open. I need the tailgate open relatively soon becuase there is a spare in there, to help put rubber on the ground and move everyting inside. I spent this afternoon pulling the '53 Courier's 215 to take it to salvage. Need a little of the 53 money back. If anyone wants 215 parts speak up please. The manner of mounting the '53 starter had me scratching my head for a good hour . Needed it and the bellhousing gone to clear the motor of radiator frame and related stuff.

Marc, yes it does . Hey Marc, the two shafts on the 2140 you brought down are now free moving!

Mike, the whole assembly is the button... The retainer must be missing or something. I suppose this is not a high priority at this time.
You should be able to open the lift gate from the inside (knob by middle of rear glass), then lower the tailgate.

Pretty cool car Mike! I like it. Seems you are always running into great deals! I hope you remember to keep me in mind it you run across any screaming deals on a 1957 f100 shortbed big window styleside pickup.

Nice work getting that freed up. Looks like that carb ended up in the right hands; it sure wasn't doing me any good.
Really enjoyed meeting you and seeing your place last week.

Hey Mike, we need more pictures! It appears you have the 8 passenger Country Sedan model. Is the interior all intact? What kind of shape is the tailgate in? I assume you saw the ebay listing for a '55 wagon that's linked in the classifieds here. It has some nice detail shots.

The same woman I bought the '55 from has a 61-64 short narrow bed pickup which I think is for sale. I know that isnt what you want, but someone probably does. There also is an early Falcon under her shed. Couldnt tell if it was a Ranchero or not. Her mother of 80 plus years was there to hand me the title on the '55. She has apparently more things at her residence of 48 years. I'll be going over there soon. Mark, all of the interior knobs, gauges, radio, etc. are present and intact. All but two pieces of stainless trim excellent, with the two being fair. Engine turns over. All of the upholstery, panels, and headliner need redone. Tailgate is very good with one old bondo repair, not too big or deep. Still dont have the magic to get the tailgate open. The glove box didnt have any hidden treasure inside . Pulled the 4000 carb and it is a list 1074-1 ECK 9510 T. So no Tbird engine, but it still looks like a 292 is sitting there.

Greg, there is a 57-60 half-ton rolling frame in Central Point, OR, which is next to Medford. http://medford.craigslist.org/pts/2473943233.html

Thanks longisland. After 5 hours of work today, the rear window is up, tailgate down, spare tire and wheel out. It was getting to one of those desperation points. Working conditions sucked. Cramped, hot, hard to see. But no saws or chisels were used. The one key wouldnt turn the rear lock. Inside window release wouldnt do anything either. It moved when pushed but that was all. Took off the rear handle/lock/release assembly and tried to rotate the 3/16 in. square hole in window bottom with screwdriver. It wouldnt budge. Made a 3/16 sq. key to fit it, after 30-60 minutes it rotated, but still unable to get release. From the inside I jambed a screwdriver into one of the wheel teeth and gave it a couple good hits. That did it, 5 hours later. Oh, and it is a 272. Interesting that Ford put the same Holley 4V 4000, same list number, on a 272 and 292.

Any chance someone out there might be able to put me onto a third row seat for 56 Country Sedan? I got another bub brewing, so family requires more leg room in our cruiser! Any ideas would be a true blessing....Thanks

The 4 Bbl on a 272 may indicate a Power Pak engine, which may have the higher compression heads etc.
