noticed in a recent post the guy with the lincoln rebuild mentioned installed hardened seats so he would not have to add lead additive...

well, my 272 was rebuilt w/hardended seats, I burn unleaded gas and put in zddp... do I need to?

thanks, Mark

Mark, ZDDP is an additive for the oil that helps with wear in older engines, specifically with flat tappet cams. It will not help with valve seat wear. So to answer your question, with hardened seats you do not need to add additives such as real lead etc. But you may still want to add ZDDP for engine wear. Mike

I would recommend looking into Joe Gibbs racing oils.  They are high in zinc and phosphorous for flat tappet cam engines.  That is what you have.  I run it in my Y-block.  Might be worth looking into.
