Greetings, my 56 272 has oil return lines from the valve covers to the block. The '64 292 I am installing does not have oil lines. Does the 64 not have them or did the machine shop not use them due to the chrome aftermarket valve covers ? I have some slight lifter/rocker noise and I am wondering if its getting the correct amount of oil or they need adjusted. Thanks for any help.

I believe the oil return lines you describe are actually oil feed lines. People would install these lines when the oil feed system, internally in the block, would plug up for one reason or another. They would run the lines, usually from the oil pressure sending unit location, to one valve cover then over to the other valve cover. The machine shop that did your new engine made sure nothing was plugged up when it was assembled (or at least they should have). Hope this helps.

Those are actully pressure lines from the block. They were an add on back in the day as a patch for poor overhead oiling. The culprit was actually the lack of cleaning by the old oil. If your engine has been rebuilt and all the oil passages cleaned out you do not need them. You'll be fine without them. Chuck in NH
