What's this bracket ?

Hi y guys

I admit I haven't seen a lot of Y blocks but I've never seen one of these before.

So here's the deal. Bought a supposedly running 312 and auto trans that supposedly came out of a '56 Ford. Motor had the B intake, no carb or dizzy.

Pulled the pan today and found ECZ on main caps. Hadn't really noticed before but it has an approximately 4"x4" flat bracket with 14 holes around the edges sitting horizontally more or less at about a 30 degree angle. It's on the passenger side lower then the head attached to the timing chain cover with a triangular shaped bracket. The generator is attached to the bottom of it. The engine has a three stack pulley system with the generator belt running in the middle pulleys.

AC,power steering, or what????????

I would guess it would be to do with an A/C compressor.I see on my parts book diagram that the A/C compressor goes on the passenger side and there is a triangular shaped bracket going from the compressor to the generator.It does not show the part you are describing but with the triple pulley I would say this was a rare A/C equipped motor.A picture would be very helpful and I would be interested to see exactly what it looks like.

Yes I know, a picture would have saved a lot of my babbling in trying to explain.

However, I am a dinosaur and lack the technilogical skill to post a picture even if I had a camera (which I don't).

However again, I have a teenage girl who works for us as her FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience and when she comes in I'll get her to shoot a photo and post it.

After looking at the 57 installation with A/C I think it is the base of an A/C compressor.

Sounds like A/C compressor mount to me, or if from a big truck, it could have been the air compressor mount.

Finally found my copies of 49-59 Ford Car Parts and Acc. text and illustrations and it is indeed an A/C condenser bracket. The illustrations of the 1955 and 1956 Fords show the best picture of the triangular bracket but the 1957 illustration shows the best view of the bracket upon which the condenser sits. Of course the 55 and 56 condensers are different from the 57

It's actually a stout, pretty neat arrangement, bolted to the block and timing chain cover with the generator bolted to the outside bottom of the condenser bracket.

I'll post photos if the kid shows up today and clicks a few.

Oh by the way Mark, I got the chrome booster and master cylinder from Old Dave. Like you said, good guy, thanks for directing me there.

Right again, I absolutely do mean cond er compressor.

 Looking right at the word in the catalog and still screwing it up..........now that's sad.
