I was doing a variety of repairs and adjustments to a buddys 56(my cars twin but Blue instead of Red).Nice car but has not been serviced for a long time.Adjusted the valves, neded it badly but luckily he has good oil flow to the rocker shaft. He had previously (about 4 years ago)purchased a nice rebuilt teapot carb.Nice recolored obviously proffesional rebuild.Installed it and the screw in cap over the needle and seat leaks.Put the old one back on for now.I read somewhere on here that there is a replacement now for this problem. How do I get one?Is there a fix I can try first?(besides tossing it and buying a new later carb).Secondly when I set the timing with the  lines off it was where its supposed to be set.Hooked the lines back on and timing was advanced at idle.It is a loadomatic. Is that the way they work?Cant remember because I replace mine with the 57 style. One other question regarding the carb.is the idle speed set using the screw on the left(drivers side) of the carb or is the fast idle screw also  used to set idle speed?Couldn't get the left side screw in far enough to set idle speed. Thanks

Mark,

I believe CASCO still sells the upgraded seat cover & "O" ring for teapots. Are you sure that is the only place it's leaking? Carbs that have been test-run (long enough so that the gaskets get soaked), and then sit around for years often leak at several spots. Likely only fresh gaskets will fix it properly.

While the shop manual says to set the initial timing with the vac. line disconnected/plugged, I have never noticed much difference if the distributor is properly setup. A couple degrees advance at idle, usually.

With the line disconnected timing is correct. As soon as lines hooked back up it advances a lot more than a couple of dergrees.I wonder if the spark advance valve is in need of replacement(on the old carb)?Does that not control vacuum to the advance? The only place I found leaking was that cover.Did not run it too long as I was not looking to create a "towering inferno".I am going to get one of those replacement covers(yes Casco has them) and see how it is after that(the new carb). Thanks!

Mark,

If the resistance springs in the distributor are broken or missing, and the advance plate isn't gummed up/sticking, any vacuum at all would likely overcome the point drag enough to over-advance. Pull the cap and inspect for proper operation.

Thanks Daniel. Will do that.I actually have an extra from when I switched to the later distributor if I cant see whats wrong with the one on there now.I ordered 2 of those caps from Casco-one for my buddy and one for the extra carb I have which was also professionally rebuilt and it leaked too.I have since switched to a 390 Holley and later distributor.MUCH better driveability and reliability.
