Whats the story with these truck engines?

Red headed bastard step child? Tongue

Never hear anything about these things.

Will the crank fit into the regular 292,312 block without any horror?

Steel crank? Or forged?

Looks like an easy way (if you can find the parts) to up the inchs on our "Y"s.

Somebody fill me in or have I stumbled into a deep dark secret?

They are Lincoln Y Blocks. Not much will interchange, crank included. I believe the 332s have forged cranks which happen to be the same stroke as a 368, but don't quote me.

Mic, no secret, but  you,re on the wrong track here, they are different engine family, FE flywheel will fit, they are so much bigger allover, this is my 332 lincoln.Smile

Mic, these are the same family as the 317-341-368 Lincoln y- block. The 302-332 truck engines have steel cranks, the only parts that inter change with a Ford y-block are the oil pump and dizzy, and at that the bottom gear has to be changed as they are one tooth different. Royce has run a Lincoln y-block in this altered T-Bird the past couple of years ,and will have one in his 56 Mercury(thumper). I am putting a 2x4 supercharged Lincoln in my 57 Ranchero. Tom

So are there any visuals that  guy  can use to differentiate a lincoln Y from a Ford Y? I'm going to be looking at some old Y blocks here in a few days and I dont want to buy a pig in a poke. Are there any good books out there that a guy should have?

A couple of quick checks.  The Lincoln thermostat housing bolts to a horizontal surface, the Ford surface is vertical.  The Ford exhaust manifold bolts are in a straight line, the Lincoln have a staggered bolt pattern.

Here’s a picture of a 332 LYB engine.  Oil fill goes directly in the block instead of the valley cover would also be another difference.

the easyest way to tell the lincoln y's is the ribbs on the valve covers, one on each side of the hold down bolts. that is if it has valve covers. also it has side by side intake ports.
