'57 vs '58 and up distributors

Is the '57 dist with the ball bearing plate prefered over the later design with the pivoting plate? Or is the later design prefered. For a point distributor it seems like the '57 style would be a little more stable platform and give a bit more acurate timing and dwell.

BTW Jim I really hate being called a newbie!!

Hi Doug.

Both have their advantages.  The '57 unit with the bearing is a nice piece and smooth as silk in its movement when it's right but is prone to sticking over time when the bearing either gets dirty or condensate slowly attacks it.  For a car that sits out in the weather quite a bit, I'd lean towards the '58 and up unit as it would appear to be more weather tolerant.

Doug, you certainly are not a newbie as far as I am concerned.  Jan
