I have a cam bearing installation tool for Chevy small-blocks. It's a steel rod with a pin in the end that fits into an aluminum puck that fits Chevy SB cam bearings. If I could get a similar puck for a y-block that would make storage of the tools easy.

I've used the Chevy puck, but it's not a perfect fit. I'd like something that fits a little better. Anybody know where I can get a cam bearing tool for the y-block?

PC:

How often do you need a cam bearing tool.  If only occasionally, I would think a tool rental place would have a universal tool such as the one NAPA had when I worked there.  My tool is home made, the pucks are steel.  Anyone with a lathe should be able to make you a puck to fit the Y bearings and the chev rod.  Fortunately all 5 Y bearings are the same size, so only 1 puck in needed.

John,

This is my second 292, (the first was for a 56 Fairlane) and I probably have at least one 312, and then a 272 for a 55 Victoria to work on. (I've got my eye on another 59 292, as well. I'm hoping it has a B9 block and 113 heads. Smile

I know this is way late, but I make my own cam bearing drivers. If you already have the Installing tool and have a lathe or can find a friend with one , even a small one, they ar easy to make.

Sorry if the pictures are not clear, it's hard to get the whole thing in the frame. BigGrin

Thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can get my machinist to make one for me. I considered cutting a bearing journal off of a scrap cam and putting a washer behind it but that would be a real gypsy lashup.

Tim’s and John's approaches are the same as mine as I end up machining mandrels to fit the cam bearings for both removal and installation.  Here’s a link to the post giving the sizes machining a cam bearing mandrel for the Y.
