My 56 has a 4 speed manual tranny, edit: T10b-1, tailshaft T10B-7, a spacer or adapter between main and tailshaft. Tranny drives good, but will pop out of second when decelerating, I'm hoping it's a linkage issue, any thoughts?

Adjust the linkage first. If it continues it probably is syncros or bad shift forks.

It is a t-10, I had a similar problem with a T-10 sometime back (1969), popped out of second when engine braking or slowing in gear. Turned out there is a spec for the end play for the output shaft assembly that is adjustable with different thickness snap rings of which there were five choices. At the time they were easily purchased at the local Ford dealer, hopefully, they're still available. There needs to be a clearance of .003 to .008 in. clearance between the front snap ring and the syncro.

My hope is you can deal with this with linkage adjustment, but if you can't let me know and I can send you the section on T-10s out of my 66 Motor's Auto Repair.

Best of luck

Thanks for the information, if it is linkage I will probably keep it for a while.  If it gets pulled I'm thinking it may not go back in, I'm debating the reality of keeping the car in some kind of period build.  Less parts available and less people around with expertise, and in this case what I read leads me to think it may not have been the best option.

Would still fix it and make it available, it may be someones taget piece.  Thanks again
