I just finished up rebuilding the suspension on my '58 Ford Custom 300 and I noticed the drivers side is 1" higher than the passenger side. What would cause this? and how do I fix it? will the springs settle to be level? Any help would be great, Thanks

Check the spring coil diameters, make sure they are the same. New springs or originals? One spring may be stiffer. Are the springs seated well in the A frames?

Front springs are brand new and the rear springs are original. I was thinking the new coil springs may need to settle but why would the original rear springs be off by an 1" on the same side as the front??? The only other thing I can think of is air pressure in the tires, but 1" is a lot.

Easy: In addition to rays suggestion, it could be out for several reasons. First make sure you are measuring with the car on a good level ground. If one of the rear leafs is weak, maybe it's enough to allow the whole car to lean some. And yes, check tire pressure..

The car currently doesn't have rear shocks installed so I was thinking I may be able to level it with the air shocks that I'm going to use.

In addition to above ideas,make sure all the tires are the same diameter.Different brands of same size tire can vary an inch or more.

Did you make sure both front springs were in the mount correctly? The ends fit in a deep groove. Air shocks would possibly correct it but it wouldn't fix the problem. There has to be a discoverable reason. Chuck

I wouldn't use air shocks to try and level the car. Doing this will put extra stress on the upper shockie mounting point. I had air shocks on a Customline with weak rear springs and used to pump them up. Ended up breaking the mount off the the cross member and cracking the crossmember. The shockie mounting on sedans is not a strong point of the frame. 2"x2"x1/8" angle from memory.
Best advice if you are worried get the rear springs reset to the height you want once you have checked it on a flat surface.
