If you have to buy one anyway might as well go with Best. They come highly recommended on this site. Chuck

so I should not spray copper on the gasket just mate the gasket to clean dry block and head like the old days

Moved from the classifieds section.

The Best Gasket head gaskets work well installing them dry.  There is a form of sealer built into them so nothing extra is required.  While doing the cylinder head tests on the dyno mule, it was found that spraying them with WD40 allowed the gaskets to be removed without tearing.  I’ve reused the same ‘Best Gasket’ head gaskets on as many as four head swaps doing this without any gasket sealing issues.  While spraying them with Copper Coat probably wouln't be detrimental, I don't think there's anything to be gained by doing it.

I've been playing with old stuff, buying engine gaskets for quite a few years. I just bought my first set of Best brand gaskets for a Y block and they look as good or better than any gaskets I've ever purchased. And they're American made according to the sticker on the packaging. And did I mention, the gaskets were more than I used to pay for complete overhaul parts including a gasket set.w00t
