Just pulled my brothers 56 out of the barn after an 18 year nap, installed battery, cleaned points and it fired right up. Ran it off a remote gas can though, the gas line is plugged up.

My oldest brother brought this car from Texas in 68 and I was decifering the vin tag when I noticed the paint code had 3 letters, JES which is buckskin Tan, colonial white and the S I believe stands for special.

It appears that it was a special ordered car, it came with factory airconditioning. it is a 4 dr Fairlane Town sedan but there are other letters and numbers in the production code that I must not have in my paper work.

Here is my break down of it.

*M6DT169985*

Body   Color    Trim     Production code

73C      JES      BJ          8B   438C

M=292,   6=year 56, D= Dallas,  T=Tudor & Fordor

73C= Fairlane Town Sedan   JES= Buckskin Tan/Colonial white/Special   BJ=Medium brown & medium brown cloth  8B= 8th day of February produced,

Now my paperwork does not tell me what the last 4 letters/numbers mean in the production code (438C) Can anyone tell me what this signifies and what is special about the paint??? it does have a 2 tone dash which is buckskin tan in the center with a bronze poly above and below???

All help appreciated, Thanks

Bill

If this car is painted white on the top and bottom and buckskin in the middle,that is the special aspect.Normal two-tone would have the top and bottom buckskin and the middle white.

The top and bottom are the buckskin, I don't know what the special aspect is unless it is the cloth apohlstery which has an odd pattern on it with squigly lines, sort of like a ranch wagon design. Or the two tone dash and the trim around the windows is goldish instead of buckskin like the outside of the car. I know the car is bone stock.

You might try LOVEFORDS.COM.There is a service on there for decoding Ford tags.He can probably tell you what the S indicates.
