Cast or moly rings?

I have a 312 that I am going to refresh.  It is .040" overbore and has no taper and no ridge and still has a decent crosshatch pattern, so I plan to just lightly hone and re-ring it.

I have always just used cast iron piston rings in previous Y-Blocks, but I have used moly rings in some other type engines.  Are moly rings available for the Y-Block, and if so does anyone have experience with them in a Y-Block?

I run moly rings and always have in my y-blocks and have been told they are much better than the cast iron because they last much longer. If building on the cheap to resale then cast iron may be the option but building for yourself then moly for the longhaul and less likely to break if abused much. Some may other opionions but this my 2 cents worth.BigGrin

I agree with Gary, but have also heard that cast rings will seat faster and shorten break-in time.
