Help - I have been getting conflicting information from people with good intentions.

Need help from people running dual quad setups on the great y-block.

I know originally the 57 Ford dual quad setup ran the teapots facing backwards and were run simultaneously. Using the same 57 Ford dual quad manifold with modern Edelbrocks, should they be run simultaneously (with both facing forward) or progressive (with back carb as primary, and both facing forward).

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Get in touch with Hayden Cunningham in Lewisville or Flower Mound Tx He liveson the line so I am not sure which town. But he is a TBird man and has tons of parts and knows Y blocks inside and out . He can set you straight on your carb setup. He is very good.I used to live in Flower Mound and I spent a lot of time at his garage getting help and parts. He is the man to know in your area. Hope this helps 55birdman Smile

The carbs on the dual quad equipped passenger cars faced forward while the carbs on the 2X4 equipped Thurderbirds were pointing rearward.

The carbs on the Birds faced rearward so that the air cleaner domes would clear the front edge of the hood scoop opening.  I tried turning mine around and even the carb bowl hit the hood opening.

Bruce,

I'm using Edelbrock 500 cfm carbs on my 57 ford dual quad manifold. They both face forward.

It must idle on both carbs. So both carbs need to be adjusted to get a good idle. I'm using the jetting supplied, and it idles well and pulls to redline. It doesn't load up on extended idle. I'm not running any choke's.

I do have to be careful not to pump it much when I start it as I can flood it.

I'm using a progressive linkage and fuel line that I purchased from Speedway Motors. If you haven't purchased your carb's yet. I would advise buying the Edelbrock AVS series as the secondaries are adjustable. They are not on the cheaper models I purchased.

The car gets a lot of attention at the show and shines with this setup. Oh I'm also running a 57 dist with a pertronix conversion.

Keep on "Y" ing.

Jim - thanks for sharing your working dual quad setup. The path you took was the one I was planning and am glad to read that it works.

Thanks to all that responded.

Brodie,

FYI - I have an ECG 9424D dual quad intake manifold (57 Ford model) and I am using the Vintage Speed adapter plates #FL-CA-8 for my Edelbrocks. They are aluminium and about 1' thick.

Brodie,

I'm using the same ones as Bruce. I did use Button head ( hex ) screws that really cleaned up the look.
