Any suggestions for a good Y-Block for this one?

The one in the background doesn't seem to fit too well.

I think you should consider yourself lucky. The kids would be burning up the tyres all day long.

Real nice pedal car though.

Not a y-block, but maybe something like this?

Yea, a yblocks gonna be to tight a fitTongue. But the the TBird Jr. that I used to have DID have an original FORD 6 volt starter in it for power. Ran great with a 12 volt car battery! I found it all junked and completely restored it back to original. Have some research on them if you are interested. Originally made by the mystic powercar co. Mine still had the serial no. plate on the dash.

A good thing pre-teens don't usually carry handguns. You might get jacked!

It is a battery operated car, not a pedal car. The motor is a genuine 6 volt Ford starter moter that has been wired with a reverse. I will leave it 6 volt. I had the bigest 6 volt truck battery in it that I could find when it was last used over 20 years ago. Restoring it for the grand daughters before they out grow it. My local parts guy recomended a golf cart battery. It has working headlights, tailights, and horn. I have driven it myself over a mile with the truck battery and I am around 200 pounds. Seems to run forever with kids driving it. I bought it from a fellow telephone company employee in St. Louis around 1972 or 73. It was a prize in a give away at a shopping center in St. Louis. Guess the number of jelly beans in the jar and win a T-Bird Junior. Made by the Power Car Company in Mystic Conneticet. It even has a serial number. A restored '57 recently sold for $2800 on E-Bay. The frame and running gear looks like someone put it together in their garage but it works. Wheels are coaster wagon wheels. Kids loved it and it is still a neat toy. Will post pictures when I finaly get it done. The guy who is doing the body and paint on my '57 Bird has agreed to shoot it if I have it done and in primer so it will match mine.

Pedal or battery it is still a great looking car. My grandkids would love it, I know and I would think that it is probably worth every bit of $2500++.

A bit off topic, but in '65 we bought our daughter a Mustang pedal car at JC Penney for about $12.50.  25 years later I restored it and gave it to her daughter, we have pictures of both girls in their new cars.  The grand daughter just turned 21 and is in college, maybe I'll live to see her daughter in that same car.

I also have one of the Mustang pedal cars. Unfortunately my granddaughters have about outgrown it before I got around to getting it out of storage for them. The Bird is a lot larger. I hope to pass this one on down the family line. Have pictures of my daughters driving this one. Kind of neat. Plan to restore the Mustang at some time just because they are neat toys.

Here is an old shot of mine. restored to look like my old 55. It was a basket case when I got it. The hood had been sawed out with a jig saw! I guess so you could get to the front? It was really butchered up. I see them go for around 2-3000 in good or restored condition sometimes. My history says that they were originally given as incentives to salesmen at FORD in 54 to promote the real deal that was to be coming out. And later sold out right by PowerCar.

My daughter just turned 4 and gave up on the pedal cars she has already told me she wants the truck because and I will quote here it goes "vroom vroom and oogah" (the horn is an original 6v sparton that my wife requested from her dad from his old rod)

How do I get her back to the pedal car? I am anticipating what the insurance will cost in 12 years.

Very nice car though will look amazing fixed up.

Nice looking '55. What did you run for a battery? I have always used the  largest 6 volt truck battery that I could find but my local parts store guy is recomending a 6 volt golf cart battery. That seems like it might be a better choice. The truck battery worked great though and would run it for a heck of a long way.

I had the 6v starter motor checked out and I replaced all the other wiring. THEN i used a 12 volt car battery. The 6v starter is very strong and will stand up to it.,just make sure all the wiring and switches will too. Oh, of course the lights won't stand up to it!, but you can replace those with newer 12v. lawn tractor lights for example or just don't wire them up. Can't imagine you'll be needing lights that much. I am sticking with the 6 volt system. According to the guys over on the Junior Central website they orginaly use 6 volt golf cart batteries and that is what I am going with this time. Had large 6 volt truck battery in it before and it would go a couple of miles on a charge, half of that with me driving it.

I'm thinking a 25hp V2 Kohler would be a nice fit....

I would think the driveline out of one of those 49cc mini bikes would work. centrifical clutch and all. They are electric start and run quite a while on the small tank of gas. Chuck
