I have just acquired a phase 1 supercharger. All the drive element parts(races, output shaft, balls) are missing but that wont be a problem since i intend to convert it over to the later SN drive element parts anyway. The most important part missing is the large band type clamp holding the two case halves together. Does anyone know where i can find one of these or have one made.

Thanks,

Jerryp

If your in this deep you probably already know of Jim Weatherly and Don Hyde.

Thats who I would go to first. Good luck !

I don't know where in the country you live, but you can also try John Erb in Carson City, NV (775-450-1800) E-mail address is  johnerb@sbcglobal.net. He converted my VS57 to a SN and has ALOT of parts. I was there and saw them.

How about turbochargers?  Do some of them have band clamps similar to the Paxton?

By Jerryp - 13 Years Ago
Thanks for the suggestion John, I hadn't thought of turbochargers. The phase 1 blower housing measures exactly 9" across where the clamp goes. Someone else suggested a clamp from a power brake booster. In looking at pictures of boosters the clamp looks very much like the original clamp. Now if i can just find one that is 9" in diameter. I may yet get this thing resurected!

Jerry:

The plant where I worked used diaphragm (air actuated) acid pumps, and the diaphragm cover halves were held together by stainless band clamps similar to the Paxton ones.  The pumps were made by the Warren-Rupp company.  They came in various sizes.  You can bet Paxton didn't invent the clamp, the probably designed the housing to use an off the shelf clamp.  Now if we can just identify them.

When I saw your first post, I figured it was from you.  A call from Roger in Va. confirmed it.

If this is the Jerry that I am thinking of, you most likely have allready talked to him, if not give John Wilson a call. No telling what he has stuck back.

I was cruising the net, found clampco.com.  They have stainles V band clamps, but not stock items above 5.7".  However, they can custom make any size you want.  They have pictures.

Thanks John for the lead on the Clampco.com website. I'll follow up on that. I assumed that paxton did buy these clamps from an outside supplier, just have to find one like it. I have another phase 1 blower that i can compare the clamp to others i find.

These early blowers had to be assembled in a shop press in order to get the clamp on since they had so much tension on the races. Paxton must have lost money on each one of these since there is so much machining involved. All the surfaces inside the blower is machined including the insides of the scroll housing. Lots more machine work than whats inside the phase 2 blowers. I thought it would look good on my E code hardtop since its an early car.
