Hi,

I'm trying to replace the two heat hose fittings that are on the water pump of of 54 Mercury. Of course one came off fairly easy but the other is a mother. My trusty PB blaster penetrating fluid has finally failed. I did put the heat gun 1300 F but short of taking a torch to heat it up I'm looking for any suggestions????

I've consider cutting it off and taking a extractor to it but thought best to ask first.

 Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Mario

If there’s not enough material there to get a small pipe wrench on, then using a drill to enlarge the existing hole and using an extractor or a die grinder with a small burr would be the next option.  Good luck on the extractor though as I don’t have a lot of luck with those with the really ‘tight’ problems.  Having the water pump removed from the engine is highly recommended in this instance.

Hi Ted,

Thanks, the previous owners pretty much wiped out the flats for the wrench to grab. i did have a hefty vice grip on it but I'll see if i can get a small pipe wrench to grip it and add a cheater for good measure.

Thanks

Mario
