Fan Line Up.

Hey guys!

Just putting my baby back together (1956 ~ 272). Just finished new gaskets, paint, valve job and just a total clean up and I am ready to put the fan back on.  I am having one heck of a time trying to get the holes to line up to even run the bolts through.  Is this normal or am I doing something very wrong?  I couldnt find a exploded diagram just to ensure I am putting the standoffs back in the correct order, which I am sure I am, just cant believe how far off the alignment is.  I will post a picture later when I get home, just looking to see if there is a quick answer to this and/or if it's common.

If everythings right then the holes should line up with no problem. Just make sure the parts are compatible with each other such as ford to ford and not something else. Start off with fan to waterpump, then make sure the spacer has the correct hole spacing as well.

To line everything up, take a longish 5/16 bolt, cut the head off and screw it into one of the holes. Then put the spacer, pulley and blade on. Take one of the regular bolts and screw it in. Remove the "stud" and put the rest of the bolts in. Works every time.



Or if you have the right stud around the shop, use that.

Thanks guys, all original parts, in fact they just came off the motor a month ago, haha.  I agree, regardless of the order of the components the holes should line up, not sure why mine don't.  There are thread marks on one side of the die cast mount/standoff, so that tells me there is a little bias in the line up.  Oh well, just curious, will attempt it again over the weekend.
