hurst 1950 conversion

All, I am looking for some info/parts to put the hurst adapter on my Y going in my shoebox. The old hurst install says it necessary to relocate the generator using the following parts: Bracket B65-10145-A, Support B65Z-10151-A, A 55-57 T-bird water pump spacer p/n b56Z-BA510-A and a 55-57 t-bird harmonic balancer pulley b65z-63312 are needed to clear.



Anyone know where I can locate these parts to make my conversion? Or if I need these parts to do the conversion?

Try the classified section here. The T-Bird harmonic balancer is going to be expensive. The spacer will not be quite as expensive but may be hard to find.

I did this swap. Flipped the Gen topside and used a 318 mopar belt.

You do know the t-bird/truck pan, pickup and frt cover are required right?

While I’m not familiar with the particulars with the Y swap into a ’50 Ford, here are my thoughts on the front pulley situation assuming the pulleys must be spaced further forward.

 

In lieu of using the one inch spacer behind the water pump, the pulley can be spaced out further using a fan spacer between the pulley and the water pump.  As far as the Thunderbird damper part of the equation goes, an alternate option would be using an Innovators West harmonic damper.  While I am working on the design for a damper specific to the T-Birds, the current IW passenger car/pickup offering can potentially be made to work by using a small block ford belt pulley or using a spacer between the Innovators West belt pulley and the damper.  Here’s a picture showing an Innovators West damper offering using a 7/16” spacer between the damper and the lower pulley to align the belt with the w/p pulley.  The water pump is already spaced out using one of Frank Rice's Thunderbird water pump spacers.

 

In the near future, Innovators West will be able to supply a bolt on Thunderbird damper and single belt pulley combination that will require no belt modifications when used on the Thunderbirds.

So what is the "Hurst adapter"? At first I thought it was an aftermarket floor shifter, but why would it involve all the changes being discussed here? Now I'm guessing motor mount kit to put a Y-block in where a flathead used to be.

Its a cradle for the front of the engine. Been around since the 50's. Chuck

The motor is a truck motor with the truck pan. So I am good there. Just looks like need a water pump space and a tbird pulley.
