Y Blockers,

I'm Planning on installing a Ford AOD transmission into my Mainline utility behind the Y block. As these share Chassis with the convertibles surely some one has done the same thing. I'm looking for experience and knowledge so that I can determine if I should go this way before buying a heap of stuff for the conversion.

As usual I've done a reasonable amount of research. I've I've done a search of this site. I've seen and read the article on the Bendtsen's site. I've made a template of the pan and placed it in the location in the chassis from measurements I found on the net.

Before I try a mock up using parts can someone give me advice on this conversion.

Thanks

Warren

For a lot of the best available info on the AOD you should check out the site Click Click racing and find the stickeys for AOD 101. What year has the better parts/ valve body/ governer. Also how to set the TV linkage  VERY VERY CRITICAL and mate it to whatever carburator you will use. Lots of stuff and somewhat disorganized but truely a GREAT RESOURSE for any AOD conversion. Pete

Pete,

Thanks I am a member of click click racing forum. Yes I understand that later is better as 88 got a lubrication modification,

89 dropped the 3-4 accumulator with a valve body upgrade and 901/2 onward recieved the stamped steel drums. TV cable is critical but lokar have a cable and the are carb linkage kits available.

The issue with this install is that the mainline ute has the same massive crossmemeber that the convertible has. The install as I've measured is going to be tight. There are only two ways to know for sure if the AOD will fit without cutting. First is to ask if anone else has done it, then to buy the adaptor and a box an try it.

It's not unlike the install on a bird but I assume that these have different chassis.

Thanks

Warren
