Howdy all,

Can someone tell me what an ECY block is?

I keep hearing about it but cannot find it in the usual lists (including Mummerts!!)

Does an ECY (Y) block actually exist?

Cheers,

Rick

I think that ECY might be one of the designations Ford used for a HD truck engine. You might find that casting number on some parts but not on a block as far as I know.

If memory serves me (and sometimes it doesn't) the early ramhorn manifolds were ECY.

You might find it on an intake manifold or other parts specific to the truck.

I have never seen it on a head or block.

Thanks John.

There's a guy over on FTE that claims to have one. He also claims it's a 272 that was a Ford REMAN engine and someone (the rebuilder?) stamped "ECY" on the block.

Even though this guys truck is actually a 55 (no truck 272's in 55 I think), Anything is possible in the 57 years hence!

The 1957 Ford Service Specifications Car - Truck book indicates, ECY is the Engine Prefix for a truck 272 two barrel 181hp engine.  No mention of the cyl block part number.

Dennis

Hi Paul, yes I understand that. The guy I mentioned was trying to identify the Y-block in his 55 F-100.

I do have the complete (54/55 F-100 to F-900) shop and (48-55 F-100 to F-600)parts manuals for my 55 F-600.

It's easy to see which OHV V-8's were available for 55 in all the trucks F-100 to F-900.......... it appears that the 239 and 256 were the only Ford Y-blocks available and ECY (or any 272) is of course, not mentioned anywhere in those publications..........

Some of us thought he might have a Lincoln-Y but they weren't designated ECY

Since the "usual" Y-lists didn't contain ECY, it wasn't much of a leap to wonder if it existed at all.

It's also not much of a leap to assume that if it did exist and he DOES in fact have one in his truck after all someone (back when I was in grade school!) probably just grabbed one out of a wrecking yard '56 thinking it would perform "better" than whatever came installed new.

hi, EBY is a 54 truck 256, caries a B4T part number. heads were EBZ. they used them in medium duty trucks and buses.
