Fenderwell headers in a truck

Does anyone have pictures of fenderwell headers installed in their F100? They look like the only option for me (short of running the dreaded factory manifolds & crossover) since the clutch and Jag steering linkages are blocking any normal header pathway.



I'd just look to get an idea of where the collector comes to and how they fill the engine bay.

If you don't find fenderwell headers you might want to size up a set of ramshorns ex manifolds. They are vastly better than the the cross over setup. They normally fit PU trucks but not pass cars, however, with the Jag front end maybe not so much. The manifold dump is directly under the center bolt of the ex flange of the head and tucked in near the block. The same manifold is used left and right side. If you can place an eyeball above the center exhaust manifold bolt and see road looking straight down you might have a fit. I will try to send a pic of my truck engine with ramshorns to give a better idea when I get on the computer with the pics.



Another possibility is a right hand pass car manifold on the left side of the engine. This dumps down and forward where the cross over manifold dumps up and forward. It doesn't look as nice as the rammys but works about as well and might fit the Jag front end better.

As we don't know where the restriction to running the "normal headers" is, posting some pic's yourself can help. I would suggest looking into maybe thunderbird headers as these use a similar engine mounting to you. These could be good as Tbirds don't have much space. Also Tim McMaster posted some pics of the LSR pick up with factory sedan duals swaped side to side in one of his recent posts. Can you run duals from the front and under, is the restriction centre dump or where?

A good question draws a better answer.

Here are a couple pics of Ramshorns in a '56 PU which show L & R sides and how they fit the frame.  You can see the slope of the dump flange towards the block.  The head pipes that I built extended down below the frame and curved back at a fairly wide radius.

Don't overlook the advantages of manifolds over headers if you can make them fit.  Headers will not add much power at street engine's normal speed and throttle opening.  The installation takes less space and will likely have a longer life.
