There is a spring under it. Disconect the battery, pushe the center of the horn ring down and twist it to the left. Should come right off. Will need a puller to get the wheel off.

Be sure to push on the centre not on the outer rim of the horn ring. You might be interested to know that the steering wheel on yours was the same from 56-59 depending on if it was a standard wheel with small centre horn button or deluxe with the full horn ring.Different rings depending on the year-same wheel.

Mark, ar.nt the 58 59 s/wheels deeper in the hub and have horn contact spring fitting, i know they are same size and fit most fords but the hub is deeper? and will hit on 56 column. SmileTongue

The first time I tool my horn ring off it was a pain. Guess it was really stuck on there. What I did is used a oil filter removal tool to turn the horn from the center while I pushed down on it. BigGrin Worked pretty good.

Aussi bill is correct, the 58-59 steering wheels & horn rings have horn contact pieces & also a hole in the base at approx the 1:oclock position for the "horn brush contact". But, I'm not sure if the 58-59 wheel center is deeper?? If that is so, it might explain why I had conversion problems, when transfering parts from a 59 horn ring to a 1957 ring & wheel to accomodate a 58 steering box conversion. But that's another long story...

I guess I should never have mentioned steering wheel interchanges.A lot of the part#'s for 56 and 57 were replaced by B9A 3600-* part #'s depending on color and actual body styles. As an example-The replacement steering wheel for a 56 Fairlane (except Country squire wagon) is used on 59 Ford except body syles 58E 59L 64F 64G 64H and 71H which seem to be the lower priced 59's with the small centre horn button. It looks like 95% of the replacement steering wheel #'s are B8A or B9A which translates into 1958 or 1959 models. Not every wheel interchanges with every 56 57 58 or 59.Depends on the model. And of course the Aussy Fords were a little different because they seemed to be made up of leftover 55 and 56 Canadian Ford and Meteor parts.I sold a standard steering wheel off a 56 to a fellow in Australia a while ago.
