I am looking for a 57 and up dizzy but besides all that...I need to install pertroniz in it and put dizzy in motor. I havent done this before. If somebody can help and walk me through this. Thanks

Is the dizzy for the F100?  If so, it already has the distributor you need.  If it is for the '56 in your avatar, then you are making a wise choice.  You'll also need a '57 and later cap and rotor.  Follow the instructions with the pertronics kit and you should be good to go.

Well this one is for the truck and there isnt a dizzy. Also im no good at timming and dont know where to position the dizzy.

There can be a problem with an early engine -239 /256 maybe? with the number of teeth on the distributor shaft. Hopefully that isn't the case here.

Turn the engine over until the front passenger side cylinder (#1) is at TDC on you timing marker. It is usually well marked on the damper so that you can find it. Due to the four cycle firing pattern - you must be sure it is on the compression TDC - not the exhaust. Many can find this with a thumb over the sparkplug hole - but some need to pull a valve cover and look at the rockers. At TDC on the firing stroke they will both be "loose' - have a small amount of lash clearance.

Firing order is as above and it turns counter-clockwise - so you insert the distributor with the rotor tip pointing at #1 . The orientation shown works well if #1 is toward the radiator - and the vacuum port for the advance can is located at the #4/#5 position. Sometimes they won't just drop clear in - the hex drive on the oil pump shaft below isn't sync'd to the gear teeth so that all aligns. Turning the crank a slight amount - will turn the cam a slight amount - and often it will immediately drop down in place.

When installing a Pertronix - follow their directions - and my advice is to add a grounding wire from the pivoting point plate clear out to the engine block. That insures that as the plate swivels - you can't lose ground to the module and voltage won't be lost to a bad ground.

I dont see why it would be a problem. I was pretty sure its a 292. What numbers would I need to know and where to find them to make sure.

Looking back at your old motor painting thread - I'd say its a 272 /292 - not the older model. So party on....Smile

Be sure the new dizzy settles clear down snug on the block - the oil pump drive is fairly short and you can end up with an engine that fires and operates - but no oil pressure......

Just leave the valve covers loosely in place when you  try to start up - and then it will be an easy operation to set the valve lash. Y-blocks don't have pressurized lifters - just a bit of flow to the rocker shafts, so you won't have a mess like with a Chebbie.

Also when I got the motor it didnt have a timming indicator and no markings on crank pulley. Another thing is I had taken the oil pump off for inspection and painting. What is the correct way of installation and prep for the pump?

Well since the motor I have for the truck now doesnt have a dizzy I was going to take the one out of the original motor. Well it wont free up and come put. Also the line on the vaccum advance was capped off and the dizzy is super dirty. Im not too sure what to do about that one.

After struggling for a bit last night I managed to free up the dizzy. Its super dirty and when I spin the gear it feels like something is making it drag besides the points. I can pull on the shaft and then it goes away. Im not sure if this normal. Here are a few pics.
