Hello, seems like the last guy to work om the engine I am now working on, tightened the valve cover studs to the extent where he pulled out the treads and cracked the area on the head where the stud mounts. Any ideas how I can repair the boss on the head I assume I will have to weld it and retap do I have other options thanks

What set of heads are they? Are they worth the investment or should you look for another set? Chuck

How the hell do you tighten it that much to do that damage ...Gawd!! Crazy

Maybe "the last guy" tried to use the stud to attach the engine hoist to the motor?I dont think its possible to tighten the cover enough to pull the stud out.

A redneck solution would be JB weld. Pete

I agree with Bill on his proposed solution. Any machine shop (doesn't have to be automotive) should be able to do this for you. It's really an appropriate, reliable, professional 'fix' for this particular application.

Try it, you'll like it! Smile
