I spent part of the spring putting a new 4 bar front end on the Chrysler roadster. I had the front end off while working on it and decided to leave it off for a while. Still planning on a Y-block swap this fall. What do you guys think? Chuck

Think I would put an early Hemi in it if it were mine. Sort of like puting an early hemi in a T-Bird.

I would love to put a 392 Hemi in it but have you priced them lately? It would cost about $10,000 to find build and put a righteous motor in there. Beyond me. I happen to have two built Y-Blocks now. One mild built balanced 292 in the 56 and on wild built 32? at Ted's shop. I'll pick up the engine at Columbus. The Y is definitely better than the current scrub. Even if I can't afford a Hemi I sure don't want that brand X motor. Chuck

Early Hemi starts to be quite dull choise, if somebody asks my opinion.
Y-Block would be nice choice.(Can you really expect other answer in Y-Block-related forum )

Back to the original question... I think your roadster looks better with the front fenders and running boards. maybe drop it a little in the front. Plus it hides the exhaust and underpinnings better.
And altho I a Ford fan, I'm also like cars that stick with one brand, so I agree with the Hemi suggestion, but one of the baby Dodge or DeSoto Hemi's from the early 50's.
Second choice of course is the Y-Block.
Just my 1¢ worth.

A Chrysler/Desoto flathead six with the dual carbs off the big motor and a T-5 would be neat,the Dodge big trucks used the larger sixes then the smaller trucks and had dual carbs and exhaust for a option. I had one of those setups to put on my 50 Chryser Windsor 8 pass sedan but it got sold.

Actualy just stirring it up a bit with the Hemi comment. Always wanted to take a '57 Chevy and put a 312 in it. Had a friend who put a 289 in a '55 Chevy back in the '70's just to mess with people.

Back in the 70's there was a late 50's Vette altered running at the New England dragway. He was running a Ford SHOC! Had a giant blue ovel on the trunk. Chuck

Chuck: You'll find that the lack of front fenders and running boards will cause the paint to be removed from the rear fenders by rocks thrown off the front tires. I have that problem with my channeled '33 pickup, and I run motorcycle type fenders on the front.

The flathead six idea is unique! If the car stays this way I will put some cycle type front fenders on. I also would like to abbreviate the rears but only if I can find a fender that fits the radius. My stock rears are in too good of shape to cut up and I would probably never find another set. The low hanging exhaust is the result of poor placement around the transmission this would be corrected during the engine swap. I'm honestly caught between the fenders/no fenders concept. While the fronts are off I plan to media blast them and get them ready for paint. Chuck

Nice car either way. I like it with fenders. Without, everything in front of the rear wheel seems to be a straight line. At least in the two photos - might be different in person. But the photo with the fenders gives a more flowing look to the car.

Actually with the frame painted black it makes the car body look narrow. I'm going to try it red and see how that looks. I've noticed a lot of unchanneled cars have the frame the same color as the body. Chuck
