Throttle Linkage 57 4bl

I am putting a modified 57 4bl manifold on my 312 in a 54 Ranch Wagon with manual shift. I see there is a home for a throttle linkage on the manifold but am not sure which one I need. I have seen the ones on an automatic with kickdown, but don't think that is what I need. In the future I also have a three two set up that appears to have the same mounting for the throttle linkage. Also anyone got what I need.

You might want to look into 6 cylinder throttle linkage since you have a manual trans,if a 54 is like a 55 or 56 the linkage bolts to the firewall only and just a rod going to the carb. I am going that route with my 55 when I put the Y block back in,there is one 54 in a local junkyard that has a six and will be going there this weekend.

I have the doohicky throttle on the firewall ( it had a six ) and yes I can hook it straight to the four barrel, but I thought it might look/work better with the other throttle linkage mounted to the manifold too.

I had a V8 54. When I went to 3 x 2's I used the stock arm that mounted to the firewall. Used this when I replaced the 3 x2 setup with a 4bbl. When I went to the 4bbl, I extended the arm some as I thought the rod that went to the carb was angled too much. Worked great and I thought I got better throttle response.

I dont think adding anything to the linkage will make it work any better,I have found that simple is better,I had a 64 galaxie that had the part on the firewall and then a complicated bellcrank assembly that bolted to the intake and it was a mess. My 55 originally had the linkage that bolted to the firewall and the intake but looked like if a motor mount would have went bad and the motor moved some there could be problems,the simple 6 cylinder linkage with a rod to the carb looks like it could withstand some motor movement more then the regular V8 linkage. Most of the old Ford trucks from the 70s I have owned had something similar and never had any issues.

The six cylinder linkage worked for me on my 55 f100.

Prior to 56 the throttle linkage to the carb was on the right side (sitting in the drivers seat) of the carb. 57 and later it was on the left side. up to 56 had a bell crank that transfered the linkage to the right side that bolted on the back of the manifold, note the two bolt hole mounts on the early manifolds.

Using a 57 and later manifold/carb setup you may be able to just run a rod from the firewall linkage to the carb without the bell crank as long as its not an auto. on trucks I have changed the whole gas pedal linkage assembly to later or earlier style depending which way I was going. my 58F100 I took to Columbus i put the earlier style carb dist, so I had to use a pedal assembly from a 57 or earlier truck.

An easy way to extend the rod is cut it, thread it and tap a piece of break line the correct length to match, add a couple jam nuts and you can adjust the length as needed.
