Been gone a long time guys but still Y blockin down da road. Came up with another one a few yrs back I've been messin with and it is a real humdinger. A 64 Ford one ton, 4WD, Spicer aux, 4spd, with a 292. A 36 Ford truck cab mounted on original frame and it's a log truck, old, old, old style log truck. I've taken it to 4 car shows and came home 3 times with best of show. Don't know how to post pic's here but could email them to someone. Anyway I'm wanting to replace the original oil filter assy with the new style direct to the block replacement kit. Any ideas of who makes the best one. I put one on my 55 Merc yrs ago but wasn't overwhelmed with it and don't remember where I got it so would like the best one if there is such a thing. Not a big deal but can't keep the seal from leaking at the block.Tnx Terry

There are two types available nowadays. The pressed steel one you probably used years ago and a real high quality one made from billet aluminum.the pressed steel ones need to be tinkered with to make sure they contact the block gasket firmly. It involves knocking the centre section out a bit further using a socket. I remember reading about this on this forum previously. The billet adaptors are sold on eBay and made by someone in the states. Just search under yblock in the motors section. They have also been mentioned here before.

Other than the billet one, Mac's had the best one that I've seen. The plate is heavy duty and they have available an extra thick gasket (not part of the kit).

Did finally connect with Charley Dover website and he threw up a big red" doesn't fit Ford F350". So today I crawled under the old beast and looks like he is right, the clutch linkage looks in the way.So here's what I have. The original offset filter set up with the cannister replaced with a adapter kit on it holding a PH8A filter. This set up is leaking at the block and filter. I'm thinking of pulling off the whole assy and plugging it. The truck is not a daily driver or even weekly, maybe 300 miles per yr. An annual oil change should not hurt the old beast. Whatda think men? Or who has a good gasket to seal to block with original assy and I'll come up with the old cannister filter, need the cannister. Anyone have the old cannister? Terry

DON'T PLUG IT!!! It's a full flow system, if you plug it the engine will get no oil.

You can make a gasket.
Or get a remote filter kit. It won't be stock but then you can put the filter nearly anywhere you want.

That's pretty definite on not plugging it so that's out. I did find the old cannister this evening so that's a good thing. Now need the two gaskets. Also found a F20 oil filter that I think is for the cannister, with gasket, will have to reference it too make sure. If it's for this 292 I'm down to needing a filter to fit at the block and will make it. Whats the best gasket material, cork, rubber, gasket paper? Tnx for the input men. Who would ever thought a damn oil leak woulld be so screwy? Terry

Terry: How much room do you have if you use an adaptor for a screw-on filter? The filter called for on my Chrysler mini-van is a Fram PH14. It's just slightly more than half the length of the Ford filter, and will work. I use the longer Ford filters on my Chrysler.

Not enough room to make it work so will go back to original cannister system, which is what I wanted to get away from all the time. Spin on filters are so much more convient, quicker. New filter for cannister on the way and hope to hell I can get that gasket at the block to quit leaking.

I understood from a few posts up that it currently equipped with a spin on filter. Is that not correct? Replace the gaskets, make them if you have to. If there are any scratches or gouges preventing a seal, you can fill them with epoxy and smooth them before replacing the gaskets. You can even use rtv for very minor scratches or divots.
I think the gaskets that come in the gasket sets are rubber. I'd use rubber or paper to make new ones.
You can buy the gasket for the stock adapter from Napa. Yours might use the exact same thing.
And again, there is always the remote mount filter option to retain the spin on convenience:

Spin on filter is in place of the cannister itself. Must have been put there because it wouldn't work on the block account of linkage in the way. The leak at the block was from taking the cannister assy off to replace with new filter adapter kit for spin on filter and it never quite sealing up. Now cannister housing with filter going back on as original with new gasket, including at block. The filter gasket should come with filter. If this doesn't work will go to remote filter set up from Mr. Gasket, thanks for the info.

There are spin on filters that are about 1/2 (and I mean 1/2) the size of a regular one. Available from NAPA and others.

Went back to all original filter set up and it doesn't leak. The clutch linkage just wouldn't allow even a shorter spin on filter. Also had to put a new seal in the Spicer transfer case behind the yoke.No more leaks under the old junker. Now found out today no brake lights working. Is there ever and end to wrenching, ever???

The one tons had a 90* adapter so the filter faced forward to clear linkages, at least I know my 55 F350 does and other 1 tons I have seen, I do have a few if you need one.

That's what is on this truck. Also have a 57 F600 with the same setup and pulled a 292 out of a 64 F600 with it also so all bigger trucks thru the yrs came with same oil filter set up. The 292 out of the 64 truck was a Heavy Duty so dropped it in my 55 Mercury with a few mod's,runs super and was able to use spin on filter adapter on it.
