Anybody have a opinion on the new 625 street demon carb. Kinda reminds me of the old carter. With the small primaries and adjustable secondary Im curious how this would work on a Y.

I’ve  read the articles on these along with the tear downs and I like what I see.  It does appear that the carb must be removed from the engine though to do any serious jet changes.  And the metering rods are Demon specific meaning the Carter/Edelbrock rods will not interchange.  But once the intial tuning is performed, then I expect the carb to be even more robust from a daily usage standpoint than their Carter/Edelbrock counterparts simply due to the jets actually sitting above the fuel reservoir floor rather than in it.  The smaller than normal primaries should help both lowend response and fuel atomization at the lower rpms.  The air demand secondaries should have the carb supplying no more air than what the engine actually wants assuming you don't get wild in the adjustments.

 

If all goes well, I’ll be receiving two of the carbs for a dual quad Y project I’m working on.  The adjustable secondary air plates should make tuning much more easier than the weighted air plates that are found in the Carter/Edelbrock carbs.

Ted - have you had your hands on one of the newer "Quick Fuel Slayer" carbs? The one I'm looking at, is the 600 CFM version with vacuum secondary. Has a few nifty inovations - adjustable secondary operation with a screw - aluminum body, easily changed idle air bleeds, etc.

The price is definitely low for the available features.  While I have experience with QFT carbs, I’ve not had a ‘Slayer’ series carb here in the shop.  The Slayer carb looks to be a standard QFT carb but without the customary rear metering block.  That would make it somewhat similar in construction design to the Holley model 4160 or Demon Jr. carbs that have internal rear secondary metering plates thereby making them about ½” shorter.  But I suspect the ‘as delivered’ fuel metering on the Slayer carbs is closer to that of the Holley Avenger carbs.  The closest Holley counterpart I come up with for  this carb would be a List #80529 Holley which is rated at 750 cfm, vacuum secondaries, and with replaceable air bleeds.  The changeable air bleeds is a nice feature but without some kind of air/fuel monitoring device either on the car or on a dyno, it’s difficult to change out the air bleeds in anything but a ‘try it and see’ methodolgy.
