Good stuff Drylakes, I recently redid the front suspension (ball joints and tie rods etc)on my 55 Fairlane. Like you I was curious about the correct cotter pin installation. I found a different site but the procedure was exactly the same as in your post. Unlike you I have never used the correct procedure until now. I've pulled a lot of cotter pins in my life but I can't recall ever seeing one done the correct way.

Had to be the luck of a son that listened to his father. He ran the Glendale Ca. Western auto automotive repair department in the late 1930s, went on to become a machinist (wind tunnel model maker) during the war and after, and was also a private pilot...JD
