I used Red's headers on mine. They fit without cutting anything.

I had a set of Red's on my bird for years, and the quality and coating was great. Don't know if they've changed in that regard.

On the other hand, a set of ground and coated ram horns look awfully good. Someone here may be able to tell you how they flow with a full exhaust.

Good luck, always nice to see younger people in the mix. My first y block was in my jr year, long ago.

I cracked the generic headers that came on the truck and replaced with ram horns and wrapped them for more appearance than anything. I would say overall they are down a little power from the headers, but not much. Did some very minor grinding on them to match the gasket. I got the tru rams from speedway that were in their scratch and dent, but was wrapping them anyway, so cheap is better.

Have at it young man. My first Y block was in 1990 when I was 17 years old. After that, the rest is history. Now I have several, a few on stands, in a 55 Ford, one on an engine run stand...just turn the key, etc.

When I was your age, I started a resto-mod with my dad on a 56 F100. The header thing was a real problem to try to get dual exhaust. At the time, there was no internet, very few book(s) to locate, and if you didn't "Know" someone you were up a creek without a paddle when it came to parts. Even the resto parts suppliers acted like Know-nothings. You can find a pair of headers for the Y block to help out with your truck... most of the current action is for the 53-56 F100s. Check out a company named Patriot, or Red's Headers. I "think" that Dennnis Carpenter Ford reproductions down in NC might have a few pairs to choose from, and I do know that Sacramento Vintage Ford and Bobs F100 parts probably have something available... check them out.

If money is tight (it was for me at your age), and you want dual exhaust, consider reversing the direction of the drivers side manifold and have a shop bend you a pipe for that side that dumps forward, down, and then out the rear... there may be a photo of that work in an Effie engine bay somewhere in one of our threads. McMaster maybe?

Hey 55Ford100, how about updating your profile with information like, age, location, name ect and it is a good idea to put your location in the tag line. The reason I say this, is that a lot of us old grandpa's on here have tons of stuff stashed away and some of us don't like to pass it along to just anyone. We have hoarded stuff for years and several myself included are more willing to offer up help and pass stuff along if we know who we are dealing with. There just maybe a member in your town or state that would take an interest in your project. Good luck with it and if you stick to it, you will have the coolest ride in your class.
