Im changing the rearend in my 56 customline, I like the back end of the car jacked up a little, but really hate the way it looks with reversed shackles. anyone ever try running the leafs over the top of the axil ? Pros?, cons?

Thanks

Seems to me adding a leaf next to the main leaf is a better and easier fix.

A competent spring shop can re-arch your springs.  This will raise ride height without changing spring rate.

Air shocks?

But, will this type of modification affect the car's performance???

Depends on how far you raise it. A couple inches won't hurt much. The higher you go the more it will affect handling and the caster angle of the front suspension.

I built my own for the Falcon,

I used the Falcon main leaf and added three leaves from a 86 scrub 4 wheel drive blazer. If you look close, you can see that the lower leaves are thicker than the top main leaf. Also clamped the front of the pack. This is most likely too stiff for street use, but you get the idea. Just go to the junk yard, pickup some used springs, and build up a pack that works for the look and ride that you want.
