By Talkwrench - 13 Years Ago Ive got a full rubber kit to do the four doors on the ol' gal. Has anyone run into troubles replacing them , gettin the old ones off,  tips, tricks? I haven't even opened the package yet as its like Christmas at my place. By Talkwrench - 13 Years Ago Aghhhh bugger didn't think about that ... By Jeff - 13 Years Ago I've replaced them before and it is easier with the door off the car but can be done the other way. Once the old material is removed I clean the area with some lacquer thinner on a rag. Careful to not get to aggressive here as you start removing paint in short order. I use the 3M weatherstrip adhesive and apply a small amount to the door and the weatherstrip, per the instructions on the box., and spread it with my finger. Let it set a moment and then press the two together. I hold it in place with masking tape. I would also recommend to start at the middle of the bottom of the door. It's almost necessary to have a helper to hang on the weatherstrip waiting to be installed. Let it dry overnight before closing the door. I would also recommend removing the stripping on one door at a time so you have a reference as to exactly the replacement material should go. Swearing loudly also helps. Hope this helps. Regards By stlroken - 13 Years Ago After getting the old stuff off I've had good luck with 3M Adhesive Remover. It doesn't bother the paint but take time, sometimes a small plastic scraper helps. Hope this helps. Jim By Talkwrench - 13 Years Ago Had a quick look and its seems like I can do it with the doors on. Fingers crossed I cant remember seeing the quater window rubbers in there Rick.. Guess they should be.. By Ghsthrss - 13 Years Ago I have done this terrible deed on my truck twice now... what i cant find is the "correct" seal. the original ones had metal screw plates where the door took tricky turns. Then there's the glue that doesn't ever stick... i guess if its a garage queen, which my truck is not i wouldn't have an issue with the freezing rain making my brand new seals rip away from the paint never to stick correctly again. So i wait with interest to see what others have to say on this one. ooo and yes i had to take my doors off. By charliemccraney - 13 Years Ago I know nothing about door seals yet but most people I talk to who have done it say to fork out the dough for the Dennis Carpenter seals if you want it to work the first time.
