Y block tech info sites

Hello :

Up until recently I've only been interested in the post-Y block Ford motors ...no particular reason .... but I would like to "bone up " on all the Ford Y blocks . I've found  Ford-Y-Block.com which looks pretty informative at first glance .

Can you suggest other sites , maybe your favourites , that would be helpful to a newbie on the Y block .

Terry: You might want to find a factory manual from say 1956 or 57. Not much in print is available in the aftermarket, however the book "Ford Y-Block" by James Eickman- Motor books International 1984, gives history & basic rebuild info etc. Cautions- it does contain a couple of errors, ie the photo of the timing chain installation is incorrect & also a controversial mod to the block oiling. Further some later copies are unauthorized reproductions & the quality is poor, try to get an original. John Mummert's Ford-Y-Block.com site contains valuable info & his parts & services are valuable. Another source is Y-Block Magazine, published bi monthly from P.O. Box 1005, Ottawa Illinois 61350. Suggest you write to the publisher, Bruce Young, include about $7.00 & ask for a current sample. Hope this helps, nice to see someone new interested...

John Mummert’s site is an excellent source for the hard core spec information as well as casting numbers for the blocks and heads.  The list of common Y-Block assembly errors is a must read.
