Hi all, happy new year!

I tried to remove the steering column assembly from my 57 skyliner, so thought it would just come straight out as one piece once I had loosened the clamp and neutral switch down by the box, but that did not work.

So, do i have to remove steering wheel etc, or is there something else I have to do?

If I do need to remove steering wheel, how do I take off the horn ring?

Thanks Ken

Just read a few past threads, and it looks like my steering shaft includes the worm, so I guess I have to take out the box with shaft as one complete unit which also means I won't have to remove the steering wheel.

If this is so then that's OK because am going to paint the chassis so I needed to remove the box anyway.

Let me  know if I'm on the right track

Thanks ken

Ken, the 57 box comes out through the interior with the shaft on. You need to remove the 2-piece access panel on the floor below the pedals. You can leave the wheel on, but it will be easier with it off. Mark

Ken:

To remove the horn ring, press down in the center and turn it to the left while holding the steering wheel from turning.  Comes off, just like removing a radiator cap.

Thanks for the replies, I managed to take it all out in one piece, that was easy in my case because I've already removed the seats. Thanks John, I'll will need to take the horn ring and wheel off at a later date so will keep this info handy.
