I recently got a torque converter from a 1954 Merc-o-matic. The converter has been taken apart. It's all there just disassembled. Did I read or hear somewhere that these things must go back together the same way they came apart? If so, is there an alignment mark to tell me how to re-assemble it? Also, is there anyone in the Tennessee, Northern Alabama/Georgia area that can rebuild these conveters? Thanks in advance for any advice.

You are no more unbalanced than the rest of us Y block lovers. As to your converter, the 55 have balance marks. One on the side of the converter on the space between the ribs that go from the hub out to the outer rim about one to two inches from the rim is a DOT or circular indentation. The matching mark is on the FACE of the flywheel that has the ring gear. This looks like an elongated circle about 3 inches in from the outside edge. Put some paint on the teeth of the ring gear so you can index the two marks. Let us know if you find somebody who will rebuild your converter. Pete

Thanks Pete. I thought I remembered that they should be put back a certain way. Thanks again for the good info. Butch
