Installed a 'B' manifold on my new engine to get the bugs out before I go back to my 3X2 setup. I need to hook up a vacuum port for my PCV sys & wondered if I can use an open 1" spacer instead of a 4 hole spacer? I want to run it with a 4100 carb until I get the 3X2 ready. I also have a Holley 600 that has a PCV nipple on it already but would rather run the 4100(less trouble). I will admit that this engine really likes that Holley carb.

I don't see why you couldn't. If you are looking for optimum flow with a B intake, those 4 hole spacers seem to work the best for stock manifolds... modified? that's a different story. I assume you are going to tap that spacer then, right? I have done somewhat the same with a 1" spacer for the small 55-56 ford 2 barrel carbs and ran PCV that way. It worked very well too. I think the "best" way to run the PCV is through a carb port, but IMHO what you are going to do with an open spacer would work fine I would think.

The car will run better at all but max performance with a 4 hole spacer, that is to say it will idle smoother with higher vacuum, come off idle better and pull with less throttle opening up to about 2500RPM or so. If the 4 bbl manifold is not modified and ported then the one hole spacer will probably make it run worse in all modes. But if you port out the iron B manifold and run a Ford 4100 1.12 or 1.08 (the 1.08 is a better match to a typical Y but the choice isn't too critical) with a 1" 4 hole spacer you will have a better running motor than you will get with the 3/2's especially if you have the Offy manifold.
