The bolt that attaches the master cylinder plunger to the brake pedal have to be a "hardened" bolt or will any bolt that fits work ? It a '56 automatic and when adding new master cylinder and brake booster I somehow misplaced or lost the origianl bolt. Does it need to have a sleeve on the bolt ? thank You

If you are changing the pushrod you will need a new gr8 bolt.The original is an eccentric type bolt and wont work with the new pushrod.

If its the same as the 55 Ford the threaded portion of the bolt is 3/8". The eccentric shoulder is 9/16" I believe. I had to make one. I made a sleeve by drilling a piece of heavy walled 5/8 tubing to 3/8 ID and turned the outside down to 9/16. Its no longer excentric so I use shims to move the MC in and out a sixteenth or so.

If you want a bolt like the original (an eccentric) the TBird suppliers have one which I assume to be the same as a sedan. The catalog does not say its an eccentric, but by the price they are asking for it ($20.00) I assume it is. They can tell you if its eccentric or not. Part # 2462 at CASCO.
You might want to check with Carpenter and some of the other suppliers as they may have the original type bolt.
