Im working on a 312 y block with an external oil pump and I need a diagram of what gaskets are used between the oil pickup tube and the oil pan. every y block that I have taken apart has different gaskets in different places and I need a solid reference, my 58 manual doesnt have only shows internal pumps. oh and by chance does anyone have the part number for the cylinder head temp sender? I picked up one that I had a part number for yesterday but the thread size is too big.

Thanks

On the most recent oil pump pick-up and pan I put together there was a thin, round copper gasket that went on the inside of the pan and a fiber gasket on the outside between the big nut and the pan. I always use a little sealant on the threads of the pick-up tube as an added measure. Sorry, I don't know the part# for the temperature sending unit.

I can only suggest my way and that is to have fibre washer on inside and copper washer on outside under nut? the larger senders were more for 55 56 engines i,m sure 57 on used the smaller fine threaded senders. Smile

Thanks guys this one only had one copper squiggly(best way to describe it) washer on the inside of the pan. I have a full gasket set so ill see what I can come up with. The pan didnt seem to be leaking before hand but it also was a non runner when I bought it.
