While not specifically a 'Y-Block' issue, I have always wondered what was the original purpose for the eccentric cam bolt, that (I assume) was dropped (along with the sliding anchor pin bolt) in '56 (?). I just don't get why a mechanical stop was ever needed to limit how far the primary lining should be from the drum, as the starwheel adjuster does essentially the same thing. Also, since we're on the subject, though I do understand the original function of a sliding anchor pin (to maximize lining-to-drum contact while insuring end clearance until full break-in?), why then I wonder, did Ford suddenly consider that feature obsolete?

HUH -I don't have any thing like that in my 54 Ford. From what i know, the last time Ford used an eccentric in the brakes was 48 with the non Bendix brakes.

Ford went to full energizing brakes (Bendix) in 1949. Am I missing something???

Paul,

You likely are if you have the orig. brakes/backing plates. There should be an eccentric bolt next to your primary front shoes. I get the impression people often removed them over the years though. Have you checked the '54 shop manual adj. instructions?
